Reliving history through curated collections of military relics
The Wichita Militaria Collector's Club was founded in May, 1982 by a small group of dedicated militaria collectors and history enthusiasts in Wichita, Kansas. The club was founded to foster the hobby of collecting and preserving military history. It is a non-political organization. The club now has over fifty men and women members. Many of the members are veterans.
Military Collector Shows
For over forty years, the club has sponsored two Military Collector Shows per year with one in April and one in November. Currently the shows are held at the Cessna Activity Center, 2744 George Washington Blvd, Wichita, KS, for two days, Saturday 9-5 and Sunday 9-3. The venue has free parking.
These shows usually consist of 100 to 120 tables of military related artifacts including firearms. Each show has a display area featuring displays of items from member collections. Attendees at the shows have the opportunity to bring in items for free identification, appraisal and receive tips for preservation of their artifact.
Club Meetings
Members of the club meet monthly for a business meeting followed by a presentation by a club member concerning a militaria related topic. Frequently, the speaker will bring items from their personal collections to show. Occasionally, the club meeting has a show and tell, where each member brings a military artifact to show and discuss. Currently, the club meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month, commencing at 7:00pm, at the V.F.W. Post 3115, 4801 W. Douglas, Wichita, KS. Occasionally, the club meeting has featured a guest speaker such as World War 1 veterans, and a Vietnam former prisoner of war.
Club Social Gatherings
Each year in December, the club hosts a Christmas party for members and guests. Periodically, the club takes a road trip as a group. In years past, the road trips have gone to numerous military and gun shows, to the World War 1 museum in Kansas City, to the Kansas Historical Museum in Topeka, Kansas, and to other military related movies.
